A Message From Lt Governor Karen Borman
As the Lieutenant Governor of Division 44 of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District of Kiwanis International, I would like to welcome you to our website. We are a vital part of community service in the East Sacramento, Carmichael and Foothill areas east of Sacramento. Following the Kiwanis motto of "changing the world, one community, one child at a time," we work with the Girl and Boy Scouts, support school attendance, and make monetary contributions to schools to support programs of their choice. We collect items to send overseas to the troops, clean up parks, ring bells for the Salvation Army at Christmas, and support the food closets in our communities. In these and many other ways, we strive to make our communities better places.
There are fifteen Kiwanis Clubs in Division 44. Our members work with youth from two elementary schools, six middle schools, twenty-six high schools, and three colleges. Two of our communities support clubs for special needs adults. To support our projects and services, we have become experts at flipping pancakes, hiding Easter eggs, and organizing crab feeds and art auctions. I need to confess that not only do we have a good time together serving the community, but we have numerous activities where our members can get together to socialize. Many life-long friendships have emerged from the Kiwanis experience.
We are proud of what we do and are always looking for new members to share our experience and join us in service. The more members we have, the more children in our community we can serve.
On the Club Links page you can find the club nearest you. But like individuals, each club has its own personality and special projects; I invite you to visit as many as you like and find the one that best fits your goals.
Karen Borman
Lt. Governor
Karen's June Message: ==============================================================
Let’s make the June 14 DCM a must to attend. Bring the 2010-2011 board members with you. Andy is planning an ice cream social to conclude the meeting. It will be an awesome time for members from the various clubs to socialize. Most of the clubs are making plans to attend the District convention in Reno in August. Each club will have two delegates. How better to gather data for the club discussion on how the delegates will vote than to listen to the two candidates for governor share their goals for the Cal-Nev-Ha District.
Congratulations secretaries, we had one hundred percent of the clubs reporting in the month of May! Distinguished Club Report: At the May DCM, I shared my observations that none of the clubs in Division 44 had any points for New Member Orientation.
Several club secretaries checked their forms and called me within twenty-four hours. According to Pete Horton, Executive Director for Cal-Nev-Ha, the September Club Report will have several additional questions collecting data for Distinguished Club, one of them - New Member Orientation.
Presidents, it should be getting easy. Most of the hard work is done. It is time to support the newly elected officers, and plan a social to celebrate the year and get acquainted with new members.
Don’t forget the toilet paper roll challenge for the May DCM. Club with the highest percentage of rolls per member wins a prize, but even more important we as a division will be supporting the Kiwanis Family House.
Go forth and have a great Kiwanis month!
Karen Borman, Division 44 Lt. Governor
